The library was started to provide Christian resources that are faithful to the Scriptures and God-centered for residents of Lagos.
It seems that there is no shortage of Christian books in Nigeria, but most of them are written from a perspective that makes man the center. Most of these books are about how to solve your problems, how to improve yourself, how to reach your destiny, how to have everything you ever wanted, and so on.
It's hard to come across books that take God as the starting point. Where are the books on the glory of God or the sovereignty of God? Where are the books about God's purposes and how to align our lives with them? Where are the books on repentance and true faith? Where are the books that show us how to apply the gospel to our lives every single day? Where are the books that stir us up to be passionate about God's glory and name?
This situation is having a visibly negative effect on the church. There is so much religiosity, but so little true spirituality. So much sound, so little substance. The man-centered Christianity being touted from so many books and sermons doesn't require repentance or any supernatural work of regeneration by the Holy Spirit. So our churches are filled with "Christians" who never seem to make any real progress in their Christian walk, whose lives are hardly any different from the world.
We certainly need more God-centered resources in Nigeria. It is only when God and the gospel of Christ start being the center of our teaching and our lives that our lives and the church will be changed. And God will get the glory. That's why P&J Library exists.
And at P&J Library, we want to ensure that everyone has access to these God-centered resources, so we lend them out for free.
